No survivors in Air India crash

A police chief in India has said there appear to be no survivors from the Air India airliner that crashed earlier today.

At least 204 bodies have been recovered from the site of the crash, while more remain under the rubble.

Of the 242 passengers that were on board, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 British, one Canadian and seven Portuguese, Air India has said.

According to the flight data, the aircraft, registered as VT-ANB, took off at 09:00 GMT and reached its maximum altitude of 625 feet (190.5 metres; with the airport’s elevation at approximately 200 feet or 61 metres), before descending at a vertical speed of -475 feet per minute (-144.8 metres per minute).
