A solitary strike from Russell Chifura kept N’ombeyawora at the top of the Northern Region Soccer League standings after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Cranborne Bullets at The Heart Stadium.

Second-placed Agama also did their part to stay in the hunt, securing a 2-0 victory over Chinhoyi Stars to keep the pressure on the log leaders.

The results leave N’ombeyawora on 54 points, with Agama close behind on 52.

From the first whistle, N’ombeyawora pressed forward in search of a breakthrough. Chifura finally broke Cranborne’s resistance with a 60th-minute finish that sealed all three points for the promotion-chasing side.

Coach Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera dismissed any suggestion of nerves despite the relentless chase from Agama.
“We are still on top of the log standings. All we need is to keep collecting points,” Saruchera said.
