Nomination court to sit

Nomination courts for municipal by-elections in Harare, Karoi and Zaka will sit on December 20 to accept papers from aspiring candidates for polls scheduled for January 2014, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has said.There are vacancies in wards 10, 12 and 32 in Karoi, Harare and Zaka, respectively, following the deaths of councillors that were elected on July 31 this year.

In a statement last week, ZEC Chief Elections Officer Mr Lovemore Sekeramayi said the by-elections would be on January 25.
“The nomination courts, for purposes of receiving nomination of candidates for elections as councillors for the aforementioned local authorities, shall sit on Friday 20 December 2013 commencing at 10 o’clock in the morning,” he said.

In Zaka Rural District Council, the nomination venue is the office of the chief executive officer at Jerera Growth Point, while in Karoi the venue is the town’s secretary’s office.  In Harare the venue is the town clerk’s office.

“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission fixes Saturday, 25 January , 2013 as the day on which a poll shall be taken if it becomes necessary in terms of Section 125 of the Election Act (Chapter 2:13) in the said local authorities,” said Mr Sekeramayi.
