THE championship race in the Zifa Northern  Region Divison One soccer league further opened up after pacesetters Flame Lilly were upstaged by a determined DStv Rangers at Chikurubi on Saturday. A 78th minute penalty by Effort Kopeni ensured was enough to see Rangers overcome the Prisons outfit in tehir own backyard.

Flame Lilly slipped into second place after falling 1-0 and are now behind Jostein Mathuthu’s ZPC Kariba. ZPC Kariba got the bettter of debutants Mushowani Stars winning 2-0 at home. Flame Lilly coach Ralph Kawondera attributed their defeat to the long break which the league had been on.

Kawondera felt that his team which had been doing well before teh long break had lost some of its touch.
“We did not play well and we missed chances. I think the break contributed as we were not on top of our game,” Kawondera said.
In the Eastern Region Moses Chunga’s Hippo Valley were held 0-0 at home by Mutare City.
