THE ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League will take a break this weekend as they pave the way for Zimbabwe’s international match against Malawi.
The two teams will clash in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier at National Sports Stadium on Sunday and the Northern Region’s leadership saw it reasonable to reschedule their matches to a later date.
Black Rhinos will go to the week nine break leading the championship race with 16 points from eight matches, having won five games, drawn one and losing two.
The army side, who have the same number of points with Mushowani Stars, have a pending game after their match against Blue Swallows was abandoned with about five minutes to go following a brawl.
Rhinos were defeated 1-0 by second-placed Mushowani Stars in their last match last weekend and the break may come in as a blessing in disguise.
The Northern Region secretariat, in a statement, said there will be no week 10 fixtures this weekend as the senior national team will be playing.
“There will be no ZIFA Northern Region week 10 fixtures as we will be focusing on the national soccer team match against Malawi,” they said.
However, in the Eastern and Southern regions, it will be a different issue as they will fulfil all their fixtures with the Eastern region’s main match being the one between third-placed Yadah Stars against former Premiership side Buffaloes at Hellenic.

Saturday: Vic Falls Tigers v Makomo (Vic Falls); Hwange Under-20 v ZRP Hwange (Hwange); Ntabazinduna v ZPC Hwange (Ntabazinduna); Indlovu Iyanyathela v Bantu Rovers (Brad Barracks); Talen Vision v Casmyn (Raylton); Technosphere v Black Boots (PP).
Sunday: Amagagasi v ZRP Byo Province (Vic Falls).
