NORTON Town Council has taken a significant step towards realising its commitment to enhancing community services and infrastructure following the installation of new street lights along Norton Road, which stretches from Karina to Endeavour Road.
Norton Town Council acting public relations officer Mr Leeroy Kaponda said the upgrade in public lighting was not merely a cosmetic enhancement but a crucial part of the council’s strategy to improve safety and accessibility for residents and visitors.
“Reliable lighting along main thoroughfares is vital for ensuring safer pedestrian and vehicular movement, particularly during the evening hours,” he said.
“With improved visibility, the risk of accidents and crime will likely decrease, fostering a more secure environment for all.”
Mr Kaponda said the decision to enhance public lighting aligns with the Minimum Service Delivery Standards as outlined by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“Government’s emphasis on improving public infrastructure reflects a broader commitment to community development and service delivery.
“Norton Town Council fully supports these national goals and aims to ensure that locals benefit from these improvements as part of a larger initiative for development,” he said.
Mr Kaponda said the newly installed street lights will serve as a foundational element in achieving the council’s broader objectives for the upcoming year.
He said plans were underway to explore energy-efficient lighting solutions that would reduce energy costs and minimise the environmental impact.
