Not Fazed…Ninjas fly high despite Chirinda exit…Rauzhi steps in to fill scorer’s boots

Sports Reporter

When Obriel Chirinda left Bulawayo Chiefs, their rivals in the league must have jumped up and down in glee. A monkey dance of sorts even!

They were convinced that the Goose had lost its lustre! Or so they thought! Exit Chirinda, Shazam Never Rauzhi! And the goal train chuchus on! This Rauzhi fella is as hot as Chirinda was at this point last season. And he is scoring goals with such ease one would not be amiss to think that Chirinda lent him his best pair of boots when he left!

At no point has this very hungry hunter of the goal not looked anything, but the man with the golden boots! Ironically, after five rounds of Castle Lager Premiership soccer matches, Chirinda is yet to feature among the top goal scorers in the land. Rauzhi is now topping the list that Chirinda had “owned” for the last couple of seasons or that also includes at the top Juan Mutudza (FC Platinum), Lynoth Chikhuwa (Highlanders), and Walter Mushona (Simba Bhora) tied on three goals apiece.

Rauzhi has scored three of his side’s seven goals thus far in this campaign with Chiefs fourth on the table with eight points from two wins and two draws. In fact, Rauzhi leads a side that many would never have bet a coin in favour of at the beginning of the season. Chiefs find themselves gazing loftily just five points behind leaders, Highlanders who have only dropped two points from a possible 15.

In each of his first two seasons at Chiefs, Chirinda scored 10 goals, an achievable feat for Rauzhi who set himself a 17-goal target for this season. Who would have thought it possible that Chiefs could unearth Chirinda? Probably just their coach, Thulani Sibanda who returned to the club he led into the Premiership after a tryst with the Sugar Boys, Triangle, and looking to rebuild. And rebuild he has, in Rauzhi unearthing a gem that has had football bystanders asking what the farce was about when they lost Chirinda!

Sibanda and his Chiefs appear to have listened to Peter McKintosh, picked themselves up, dusted themselves off and are now moving right along!

They are cruising not with a spare tyre but with a whole new set of rubber and rims. Sparkling new in fact!

And when they walk onto the turf at Sakubva Stadium in Mutare tomorrow, lithium miners Bikita Minerals better have a lock fashioned and ready to avoid being turned into a goal bucket by Rauzhi and his buddies. The tall tales of Rauzhi’s ascent to the top of the heap will follow him throughout his trip to the Eastern Highlands.

However, Bikita have shown no obvious vulnerabilities defensively, shipping in only four goals from their first four matches while scoring three in return. But after all has been said and done, bets placed, Rauzhi is undoubtedly the key player to watch out  for in the match against Bikita.
