Multi-award-winning artiste Novuyo Seagirl’s decision to relocate to Victoria Falls from Bulawayo five months ago has proven to be a game-changer.
Not only did she secure a slot to perform at the recently held Mapopoma Festival as a first-timer, but has also landed several corporate gigs in the fast-growing resort city.
Victoria Falls, a hub for conferences, has become a lucrative venue for entertainers, with event organisers frequently inviting artistes from Bulawayo and Harare to perform at cocktail events as part of conference programmes.
Recently, Seagirl signed a one-year contract with Simunye Theatre production for their trending Indlovu production and has been delivering captivating performances at various hotels for private gigs.
Being one of the local artistes performing at the Mapopoma Festival, Seagirl performed at the opening ceremony officiated by Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi. She continued to mesmerise fans on Saturday as one of the main acts.
Reflecting on her experience in the resort city, Seagirl expressed excitement about the new challenge that Victoria Falls presents, with its diverse crowd comprising people from different cultures and races.
She said performing at the Mapopoma Festival which was in its fifth edition was exciting.
“It was amazing and the stage was great. The crowd was amazingly responsive and gave me love and respect, considering that it was my first time performing at Mapopoma and Victoria Falls at such a big concert,” said Seagirl.
While she is no stranger to larger audiences, having performed at Econet gigs, Zim Ntulikazi, and other significant events, Seagirl sees her venture into the Victoria Falls market as an opportunity for exposure and gaining valuable experience.
“I hope Victoria Falls is going to love more of me,” she added, expressing gratitude for the positive start in the city.
She also highlighted that she has secured several corporate gigs as she penetrates the market, acknowledging the uniqueness of the Victoria Falls audience. She sees this as a learning opportunity and a significant step in conquering new territories in her career.
