Varun Beverages Zimbabwe’s vision for a Milk Revolution is aligned with Vision 2030. Rural economic development is essential for Zimbabwe’s overall growth and its journey towards an empowered upper-middle-income economy.
Zimbabwe’s annual milk consumption is estimated at less than 10 litres per person, compared with an African average of approximately 40 litres.
This substantial gap presents an opportunity to improve nutrition, expand domestic dairy production and create dependable incomes for rural communities.
A farmer-centred dairy model can connect small-scale producers with:
Integrated dairy ecosystem connecting farmers with milk collection, chilling, processing, technology, product development and markets.
The objective should extend beyond establishing another dairy factory. Zimbabwe needs a complete farm-to-consumer ecosystem capable of producing affordable milk, yoghurt, dairy beverages, butter, cheese and nutritional products.
Every litre of locally collected milk can contribute to:
Income for rural families
Better access to nutritious dairy products
Opportunities for women and young farmers
Employment and domestic value addition
Reduced import dependence and conserved
