Now is the time to beat Boks – Youngs

Cape Town – England scrumhalf Ben Youngs says it’s time for England to end a decade of despair against South Africa and earn their first win 12 Tests.

England have not beaten South Africa since 2006 and face the Springboks at Twickenham in both teams’ first Test of the November series.

They head into the game unbeaten in 10 matches and Youngs is eager to add to that winning tally.

“We feel our time is now to get rid of the last 10 years and get a win at the weekend,” Youngs told the England Rugby website.

Youngs also says the squad has been inspired by Ireland’s win against the All Blacks on Saturday – which ended an 111-year wait for victory against New Zealand.

“It just goes to show the gap (between southern and northern hemisphere) is not as big as people think it is. The weekend is going to come down to being physical . . . we’ve got to make sure that we are able to dominate in that area.

Youngs (27) has 61 England caps and has faced the Springboks five times and says he knows what to expect on Saturday – a tough physical encounter.

“In the games I’ve played against South Africa the biggest thing I’ve learned is their physicality. That part of the game is going to be absolutely key.

They have added to their game with three and four-man lineouts as they look to mix it up but I think they’ll go back to tradition and try and beat us up to a degree.” – Sport24
