THE National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has cleared 19 986 out of 27 012 cases in the second quarter of the year, the organisation has revealed in its second quarter performance indicators.
According to the NPA, there are only 7 026 cases which are still pending.
Of these, Mashonaland Central Province has the highest number with 1 848, Harare North (1 340), Harare South (1 104), Mashonaland West (841), Matabeleland South (655), Manicaland (341), Masvingo (324), Matabeleland North (289) while Mashonaland East has 284 pending cases.
The NPA has been making strategic changes to improve prosecution effectiveness and efficiency.
These changes include upgrading strategies, strengthening cooperation with other agencies, and streamlining processes to reduce case backlogs.
It has also been involved in partnerships to combat various crimes, including wildlife and environmental crimes, and has focused on securing asset recovery.
