NRL reads riot act

Reports have been filed in which the NRL will consider before Saturday’s matches.

This comes against a background of three consecutive weeks of barbaric acts of violence on and off the field where matches were abandoned and referees assaulted.

“In as much as clubs may be aggrieved by decisions there are channels to send their grievances.
“But now if they decide to take the law into their own hands then we will not sit back and watch.

“They will be painting the wrong image of the league which may cost us crucial sponsorship so we are taking a bold stance and definitely by the end of the week all issues will be dealt with,” said Kanyangarara.

Saturday’s derby between Gweru sports Club and Zvishavane Bulls had to be called off as the home side’s supporters invaded the field attacking the Bulls players,” said Zvishavane Bulls’ technical advisor, Darlington Majoni.

“The game was abandoned due to the Gweru supporters going on the field and beating up players.
“There was no form of security to protect the players so the match had to be stopped.

“We had complained to the referee in the first half and he noted my concerns but the violence started again in the second half, I think it must have been the pressure of the derby.”

Prior to Saturday’s violent clashes, Old Hararians players had a series of scuffles with Old Georgians and Gardner Nechironga attacked the referee.
