The National Railways of Zimbabwe has expressed satisfaction with the response from investors towards the construction of the railway line linking Chitungwiza and Harare that has been on the cards for some time.
This was said by the NRZ’s General Manager Mrs Respina Zinyanduko when she appeared before the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Monday.
She said the response had been overwhelming adding discussions were ongoing with an investor from China.
“Chitungwiza is a lucrative passenger route given the sheer number of people that move between Chitungwiza and Harare,” she said.
Mrs Zinyanduko said the potential investor from China was also working with the NRZ on other projects to revive the operations of the company railway company.
The construction of the railway line is expected to ease transport woes between Harare and the dormitory town.
She said they expect to conclude the negotiations with the investor within the coming year.
