The National Railways of Zimbabwe Contributory Pension Fund (NRZCPF) hosted its inaugural free medical expo at Sizinda Clinic in Bulawayo, marking a significant milestone in the Fund’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of its members and pensioners.
Held under the theme “Promoting Wellness, Enhancing Lives,” the expo attracted hundreds of members who accessed a wide range of free healthcare services and wellness programmes. The event formed part of the Fund’s broader strategy to support healthy and dignified living among its members beyond the provision of pension benefits.
Speaking after the event, NRZCPF Chief Executive Officer Mrs Chipo Hlabangana expressed satisfaction with the overwhelming response from members and commended the healthcare professionals, partners and volunteers who contributed to the success of the programme.
“The Medical Expo reflects our commitment to putting members first. We recognise that good health is fundamental to financial security and overall well-being. By bringing essential health services closer to our members, particularly pensioners, we are making a meaningful contribution to improving their quality of life,” she said.
Participants benefited from free general medical consultations, blood pressure, blood sugar and HIV testing, physiotherapy services, health education and wellness awareness sessions.
Family planning services together with information on available healthcare options were extended to the members, they also received free medication and pharmaceutical advice from healthcare professionals.
In addition to medical services, the expo provided a platform for biometric registration and verification, enabling members to conveniently update and confirm their records with the Fund.
The medical expo was made possible through the support of several strategic partners who contributed resources, expertise and financial support towards the initiative.
Members who attended the expo welcomed the programme, describing it as timely and impactful. For many pensioners, the event provided an opportunity to access healthcare services that may otherwise be difficult or costly to obtain, while also receiving valuable health education and wellness guidance.
“This initiative by the Fund makes us proud to be members because it demonstrates that our welfare remains at the heart of its programmes. Healthcare costs are among the greatest challenges facing Pensioners, and bringing essential medical services closer to us through this Expo was both timely and thoughtful. It is a commendable gesture that has made a real difference in the lives of many Members and Pensioners,” said one Pensioner.
The success of the inaugural medical expo reinforces the Fund’s vision of delivering holistic value to its membership.
Following the encouraging turnout and positive feedback received, the NRZCPF said it intends to progressively extend its reach to other centres across Zimbabwe, ensuring that more members and pensioners can benefit from essential healthcare services.
As NRZCPF continues to strengthen member engagement and welfare initiatives, the medical expo stands as a testament to the Fund’s dedication to supporting healthier communities and improving the quality of life of its Members and Pensioners.
