THE National Social Security Authority (NSSA) has launched a blitz against companies that are failing to comply with regulations on workers safety, pension and insurance schemes in Matabeleland region.

In a statement the authority yesterday said its compliance inspectorate had embarked on a 12-day fact-finding mission in Bulawayo, Matabeleland North, and Matabeleland South to check on records of companies in the three provinces.

The blitz started on October 19 and will end on October 30.

The authority said those who fail to pay the required contributions and premiums may be prosecuted.

“The National Social Security Authority’s Compliance Inspectorate will be carrying out door to door business inspections for all employers of Labour in Matabeleland South, Bulawayo and Matabeleland North from October 19 to 30 October,” said NSSA in the statement.

“This exercise is meant to verify business compliance with the National Pension and other Benefits Scheme (S.I 393/93) and Accidents Prevention and Workers Compensation insurance fund WCIF (S.I 68/90) for the period January 2015 to October 2015.”

NSSA said its customers must be up to date with their subscriptions.

The authority said many of its clients are up to date, but companies were strongly urged to ensure that their contributions and premiums were in order as it is statutory requirement that all contributions and premiums are remitted to the authority by the 10th of every month.

Companies that are in arrears were urged to contact NSSA offices immediately. “In the event that a client is in contribution and premiums arrears, please contact the — senior NSSA personnel in your area to make arrangements. If no such arrangement is in existence by then, no favourable consideration will be made in the application of surcharges and penalties, and legal action which may include garnishing of defaulting clients’ accounts (will be taken),” reads the statement.
