A new cluster housing scheme of 120 semi-detached houses has been built in Tynwald in western Harare by NSSA through its National Building Society.
The Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Professor Paul Mavima on Monday unveiled Sunset Villas as part of the major drive by Government mobilising private, Government and quasi-government resources to build 220 000 houses and flats by 2025.
This comes barely a month after President Mnangagwa commissioned 858 houses being built by FBC at Fountain Ridge also in Harare west.
The 120 semi-detached houses at Sunset Villas have an open plan design and contemporary features.
The two-bedroomed and three-bedroomed houses are designed to be affordable by middle income earners, including civil servants.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Minister Paul Mavima said Sunset Villas marked another milestone in the realisation of vision 2030.
“The Tynwald Sunset Villas housing project is an impeccable example of the social development pillar of National Development Strategy 1, aimed at improving the quality of life for all Zimbabweans through the provision of decent and affordable housing,” Minister Mavima said.
“What is particularly impressive is that this project was funded by the National Social Security Authority through its investment vehicle, NBS.
“As you are all aware, NSSA represents the collective savings of our working people. As such, NSSA’s investment in projects like this is in line with the President’s mantra that ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’.”
Minister Mavima sought more involvement from the private sector in delivering decent housing to people.
“This Tynwald Sunset Villas project for which we are gathered here today is a model of what the public sector and the private sector can achieve if they join hands and unite to build the nation.
“This partnership did not only provide housing, but it also created employment opportunities, stimulated economic growth, and as a result contributed to realisation of national targets.”
NBS managing director Mr Tapera Mushoriwa said the 120 semi-detached houses were evenly split between 60 two-bedroom and 60 are three-bedroom homes.
Forty-two houses have already been completed under phase one and phase two, the other 78 should be completed by the end of this month.
Mr Mushoriwa said similar schemes to Sunset Villas would be replicated in other provinces.
“It relates to empowered beneficiaries, citizens, and communities, as well as economic transformation, innovation within the human settlements space and progress in our national agenda,” Mr Mushoriwa said.
“Therefore, we look forward to replicating this success through strategic partnerships and ongoing support as we endeavour to bank, build, and go beyond.”
The Sunset Villas houses are an example of modern smart homes with prepaid gas, an internet connection, solar power for backup with fully serviced sewer and water reticulation, surfaced roads and the necessary amenities nearby.
Government has been implementing several initiatives aimed at improving the lives of people and this walled and gated community will undoubtedly provide a comfortable and secure living environment for people.
Zimbabwe is on track to surpassing its target to deliver 220 000 housing units by 2025 with synergies between Government and the private sector affording the nation modern, decent and affordable housing in line with Vision 2030.
