Nurse alleges prophet raped her

“messiah” later raped her during the course of a cleansing ceremony.

It is alleged that sometime in March this year the nurse approached Tonderai Kachere, a self styled prophet seeking cleansing as she was failing to get a job after completing her studies.
Kachere, it is alleged, told the nurse that she should bring a clay pot, spring water and river sand for a cleansing ceremony.

The State says the nurse told Kachere that she did not know where she could get the items and he promised to go with her to a nearby river.
On May 2 this year at around 3pm the nurse went to Kachere’s shrine, which is near Foundation College near Old Tafara.

The “prophet” allegedly took her to a nearby river where he said he wanted to fetch spring water. Kachere later started the “ritual” by splashing sand and water on the nurse before rubbing his hands on her head. The complainant claimed she started feeling dizzy and weak and Kachere allegedly held her and laid her on her back. It is alleged that he lifted her skirt and raped her once. The woman, the

State says, gained consciousness after being raped and she threatened to report the matter to the police.
Kachere allegedly tricked her and promised that he would marry her and they stayed together for some months. The nurse reported the matter after Kachere assaulted her, it is alleged.
Kachere was not formally charged when he appeared before regional magistrate Mr Never Katiyo who remanded him out of custody to August 17 this year on US$100 bail.
