NUST A basketball outfit will be part of the Bulawayo Basketball League (BBL) 2023-24 Elite League after coming out tops in the play-offs at Khanyisile Sports Centre on Saturday.
The Elite League is a new division that has been introduced this year to improve the competitiveness of the top men’s league.
Six teams will take part in the pilot league.
The teams that finished in the top four last season which are Legends, Mavericks, Lakers and Giants have automatic qualification into the Elite League.
Highlanders who finished first in the B League have the fifth slot.
Clippers, City Royals, and Nust A took part in the play-offs to decide who would get the remaining slot.
The three teams played in a round-robin format with the winner, Nust A, progressing to the Elite League.
Nust A beat Clippers 20-0 before going on to register a 72-57 victory over City Royals to earn a place in the Elite League. The City Royals won 20-0 in their game against the Clippers.
BBA secretary-general Francis Dube said: “Focus now shifts to the pre-season tournament which we should be hosting this coming weekend. This will pave the way for the start of the season proper.” — @innocentskizoe
