THE National University of Science and Technology (NUST), in partnership with Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Ekusileni Hospital, will host a fundraising golf tournament at Bulawayo Country Club on July 3 as efforts gather momentum to transform the historic institution into a specialist teaching and research hospital.
The one-day tournament, which tees off at 7am and runs until 4pm, is expected to bring together golfers, corporate executives, healthcare stakeholders and development partners in support of a project expected to strengthen Zimbabwe’s healthcare delivery system and medical education.
The fundraising initiative seeks to mobilise resources towards the operationalisation of Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Ekusileni Hospital as a specialist teaching and research facility under NUST.
The tournament will be played in a four-ball format, with entry fees pegged at US$200 per team and US$50 for individual participants. All proceeds will go towards the hospital’s transformation programme.
The initiative has already attracted strong corporate support, with CBZ Holdings, CABS, FBC Bank, BancABC, Salutem International Medical Fund and Fusertech among the sponsors backing the event.
Once fully operational, the hospital is expected to serve as a centre of excellence for specialist healthcare, medical education and research, while providing NUST students with a world-class clinical training facility.
The fundraising tournament also highlights growing collaboration between academia, the corporate sector and the healthcare industry in advancing national development priorities.
Organisers have urged corporates, golfers and well-wishers to participate in the event, describing it as more than a sporting competition but an opportunity to invest in the future of Zimbabwe’s healthcare system.
The hospital is named in honour of the late Vice-President and nationalist Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo, with the transformation project expected to preserve his legacy while expanding access to specialist healthcare services.
