NATIONAL University of Science and Technology (Nust) Football Club face Njube Spurs in a make-or-break Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) Division Three championship tie at Nust Sports Ground today.
A win for the home side will potentially take the team, which comprises students from different faculties, to Division Two.
The university side is under the stewardship of Joseph Sibindi, a lecturer in the Department of Sports Science and Coaching and the gaffer is assisted by former Motor Action, Chicken Inn and Warriors midfielder, Clemence Matawu, himself a graduate of the university.
Nust, sitting in position three are separated by one point from second-placed Njube Spurs with two more games left to play in the league, after today’s encounter. With the university’s Vice-Chancellor Mqhele Dlodlo set to be at the grounds rallying the team, vice-captain, McDonald “Hazard” Chitambo said that will be motivation enough for their side to give their all on the field.
“We are highly motivated because the Vice-Chancellor will be there, it will be a tough match but motivation is very high,” said Chitambo.
Chitambo said they are fully prepared for today having had training sessions throughout the week and are expecting nothing less of a win which will see them go above their opponents, opening two points gap between them.
Having not yet motivated students to support and fall in love with the team, Chitambo said he hopes fortunes will change after today’s match as they are hoping to have a certain number that will watch and motivate more students to support them.
“Tomorrow (today) if we manage to have a certain percentage coming in to support us, it will motivate others to come out and support their soccer team as well in the future,” he said. — Follow on Twitter @brandon_malvin
