NATIONAL University of Science and Technology basketball coach Theo Weale says Blue Rays Titans Pre-Season tournament which started at Bulawayo Club of the Disabled Courts on Saturday has given his teams much-needed game time.
It is the season opener and the six men’s teams and three women’s took to the courts to shake off off-season rust and new players adjusted to their new homes.
Nust men beat School of Mines 40-11 and shot down Riverdale Academy 49-23.
The ladies’ team lost 27-23 to Sikhumbuzo Ndlovu’s Lakers project. The match went into overtime
“So far for us, the tournament hasn’t been too bad. We’re quite happy with how things are progressing,” Weale said.
“Hats off to Blue Rays Titans and the organising team. It’s a good stepping stone, we were looking for much-needed game time, and this tournament has provided that.”
“On the men’s side, we played two games and we have two positive results,” Weale said.
He also praised the tournament’s presentation, saying the trophies and medals on display have added extra motivation for players.
“At least it’s a motivation to the players. Hats off to the organising team.”
The tournament will end on Sunday afternoon.
