A FIRST year National University of Science and Technology (Nust) student was allegedly kidnapped and drugged before he was reportedly robbed of his belongings that included a suitcase, laptop and cash.

The incident was reported to the police. Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

“We would like to discourage members of the public from boarding unregistered vehicles because most of those vehicles are used by robbers. They should board registered vehicles and taxis,” he said.

Insp Ncube appealed for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

“Anyone with information may contact any nearest police station or give us a tip-off on 60358,” he said.

A source close to the incident said the student whose name is withheld boarded a Revv car which had three occupants at Mac’s garage in the city centre intending to go to Masvingo. But he never knew that things would turn bad for him.

“In the car there were two males, a driver and another man who was sitting in the passenger’s seat while a female sat at the back seat.  They left for Masvingo along Gwanda Road while they were near Kumalo suburb. The driver turned along a road which led to shops and parked at the roadside. Soon after that a lady sprayed him in the eyes with an unknown substance. After that he felt dizzy and fell unconscious,” said the source.

The source added: “The boy woke up the following day to find himself in a dark room while his hands were tied to his back and they robbed him of his suitcase, laptop, and US$19 before they punched and kicked him while demanding that he give them the password of his phone. He eventually unlocked his cellphone.”

They bundled him into their car and drove to town before dumping him at corner 10 Avenue and Simon Parirenyatwa Street.

He reported the incident to the police
