THE National University of Science and Technology scooped the best Contact Centre Association of Zimbabwe (CCAZ) customer service excellence award for the southern region at a ceremony that was held in the city on Friday

Nust came tops in the Best Educator cateagory while Catholic University and Lupane State University walked away with first and second runner-up prizes respectively.

Speaking in an interview after the awards, Nust director of communication and marketing Mr Felix Moyo said he was happy that excellence in communication was being recognised.

“We are very happy that we have been recognised as a leader in communication, however, from the scores it shows that we have a long way to go and we are aiming higher than this that we have achieved,” he said.

Mr Moyo said the university will engage in various activities to ensure that excellence is maintained while standards of professional customer service services are kept high. He said the award was a reflection of the efforts that the university put in ensuring that customers get excellent service from the university.

“The student is our biggest customer and in whatever we do in our various departments, we strive to ensure that we give the best assistance in terms of services required by our customers. We held career fairs, we engage with the media, we have prospective students coming in, all those people are important stakeholders and we want to ensure that we give them the best service. Effective communication is pleasant and pleasant communication translates itself into good customer care,” he said.

The adjudication was done through mystery shopping, in which judges from different categories went to various organisations seeking different services and scoring the organisations for the quality of service rendered. Other adjudicators used survey monkey for the judging criteria, an online voting platform which allows a user to rate service of an organisation.

The awards bring to focus the importance of customer service as a strategic tool for success in business and serve to raise the profile of customer service practice and professionalism. The National awards will be held in October, which will be the seventh edition of the event.
