Dancehall singer Nutty O shined on Saturday at the Castle National Braai Day at Old Hararians, as his performance was rated the best for the night.
Nutty O performed before the main act, Winky D, with DJ Etherton Beenie coming in between.
He proved he can handle the pressure as he performed hit after hit from his last album Mustard Seed. Music lovers were in for a treat.
But the venue proved to be too small as it quickly filled up, so much that it was a struggle to walk around to get a drink and the promised braai pack that were charged on the entry fee.
The process to get the braai packs was long .
First, revellers paid at the gate and then they got a tag and two tickets, one for the Braai pack and one for beer.
For one to get the beer and the Braai pack, the ticket needed to be scanned, then they get the ticket for the meal and approach the Braai masters.
It was not a walk in the park as there was a very long queue.
But music wise, Nutty O proved that he now deserved a sit at the high table as he brought the audience back to life after Freeman’s performance which seemed low key.
Nutty O kept music lovers on their toes, with hits from his previous album, including many’s daily prayer “Open doors”, “Be My Girl” and of course “Ndichingovabayabaya”.
Revellers felt that the man of the moment, Freeman, didn’t quite give them the value for their money this time around as he seemed to have been tired.
“We were expecting so much from Freeman considering what he recently did with Chris Martin,” said a reveller. “We love and support him so much, but he seemed to have been tired.
“I seriously think that these artistes need to prepare more for some shows, you don’t just come and people are just happy to see you. We need that stage presence as well and the hype.
“This is not the real Freeman that we know. With how well his new album is doing he wasn’t sounding that good. We didn’t get that energy we paid for.”
Overally, Enzo Ishal did exceptionally well, as he opened his performances with Djs having been playing from the early hours.
He gave revellers their money’s worth as fans danced along to his songs which included “Ehe” and “Makamhanya makarimwa”.
Then the Djs took over, playing between the artists.
They did their best to entertain revellers. However, many felt that the organisers could have put more singers to reduce the time one was on stage.
Overally, the main act, Winky D, proved why he is loved by many as he played longer and even more songs than expected.
As it was nearing midnight, people started making their way out.
Many who attended the event urged Delta Corporation to find a more bigger venue for the next edition or limit the tickets as people kept on flocking in and it was already a nightmare to find space from as early as 4pm.
The Old Hararians venue proved too small for the event that attracted people from all over the country.
Clearly, the organisers underestimated just how starved music lovers had been during the two-year sabbatical caused by Covid-19.
