Nyanga schools join dotcom era

Member of Parliament for Nyanga South Cde Supa Mandiwanzira (Zanu-PF) has pledged to assist schools in the constituency get computers and have Internet access.

Cde Mandiwanzira, who is also ICT and Courier Services Minister, said this at Manjoro Primary School in Nyanga during a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a clinic in the constituency’s ward 22.

This follows the official opening of Dangamvura Community Information Centre in Mutare by President Mugabe last week.

With the clinic already being erected, Cde Mandiwanzira revealed several other developmental projects to improve infrastructure and agriculture in the constituency.

“Computers and the Internet are important in the education of our children and we shall make frantic efforts to make sure that all schools here have ICT facilities,” he said.

“We will not stop there, we are also starting poultry projects with people organising themselves into groups. There are 10 000 chicks which will be dispatched in batches throughout the constituency. So we want you to organise yourselves and be ready. Schools, churches and other groups will also benefit from this project.”

However, youths who talked to this publication said local councillor and Zanu-PF Central Committee member, Cde Moses Gutu, who was recently accused of insulting the President, is interfering with developmental projects in the constituency.

Cde Gutu could not be reached for comment.

On the sidelines of the ground-breaking ceremony, Chief Mapeta Hata lamented that National Parks authorities were encroaching into and fencing off grazing lands, leaving their cattle with inadequate pastures.
