Nyaradzo Funeral Services MD named director of the year

 

The award ceremony, held under the theme, “Freeing Up Space” also recognised Mataranyika as director of the year in the large and listed companies category.

Admore Kandlela, the chief executive officer of POSB, won the public, parastatals and non-governmental organisation category.

Mataranyika was recognised for effectively contributing to the development of his organisational strategy since its formation in 2001.

He has contributed to strong organisational control and oversight, opening several branches countrywide breaking the monopoly in the sector.

Kandlela was recognised for turning around the fortunes of POSB   into a modern bank and saving the rural communities more than any other financial institution.

He also founded Friends of the Environment which spearheaded the planting of over 7 000 trees last year together and a sponsored walk from Harare to Mutare. Speaking at the awards ceremony on Thursday, IODZ chairman, Johannes Mudzengerere, said directors and organisational leaders should foster a business culture that was underpinned by sound ethical values.

“It is therefore critical for Zimbabwe to embrace the Director of the Year Awards to rekindle the positive spirit of building a country that has a well governed business sector as well as leadership that is ethically responsible and good  corporate governance compliant,” he said.

“The world is not kind, let us build a strong and sustainable Zimbabwe premised on good governance and application of sound and sustainable economic principles.”

As part of his prize, Mataranyika will get an opportunity to attend director’s school in Mauritius and floating trophy while Kandlela won a trophy and two nights for two at A’ Zambezi lodge in Victoria Falls.

Introduced in 2005, the Director of the Year awards ceremony celebrates and recognises achievements by individuals whose contribution to boards of directors in Zimbabwe.

Past winners include Zimra director general Gershem Pasi, Dairibord managing director Anthony Mandiwanza, Econet chief executive Douglas Mboweni, Kingdom Financial Holdings founder Nigel Chanakira and African Sun chief executive Shingi Munyeza.

Mauritius Institute of Directors chief executive officer Jane Valls was the guest of honour at the awards ceremony. — New Ziana.
