FOR Nyasha Maniki, creativity is more than a hobby, it is a way of life.

The Form Four learner at Mrehwa High School is steadily making a name for herself as a gifted young performer with a passion for singing, acting and poetry, proving that talent can blossom even at a young age when nurtured with dedication and confidence.

Nyasha’s artistic journey began with music. From school assemblies to family gatherings, her love for singing quickly became evident as she confidently took centre stage, captivating audiences with her voice and stage presence. Singing soon opened doors to other forms of expression, including acting, where she found joy in bringing characters and stories to life.

“I started singing because music makes me feel confident and happy,” Nyasha said. “When I sing, I feel like I am expressing myself in a way that words sometimes can’t.”

As her confidence grew, Nyasha discovered poetry a creative space where she could freely explore her thoughts and emotions. Through poetry, she writes about everyday experiences, dreams, friendships and personal growth, using words to reflect her inner world and observations of life around her.

“Poetry helps me say what I feel inside,” she said. “Sometimes it’s about being happy, sometimes it’s about challenges, but writing helps me understand myself better.”

Nyasha draws inspiration from musicians, actors and poets she encounters through school activities, community events and the media. She says seeing young people confidently pursue their talents motivates her to work harder and remain focused on her goals. Support from her family and teachers at Mrehwa High School has also played a crucial role in shaping her journey.

“My family and teachers always encourage me to keep going,” she said. “They tell me that it’s okay to make mistakes as long as I learn from them.”

Balancing academics with creative pursuits has taught Nyasha discipline, time management and self-belief. Despite the demands of schoolwork, she remains committed to honing her talents, often rehearsing, writing or practising whenever time allows. Teachers describe her as focused and expressive, while fellow learners admire her confidence and willingness to share her talents.

Looking to the future, Nyasha has clear ambitions. She hopes to perform on larger stages, act in film and theatre productions, and eventually publish her poetry.

Beyond personal success, she wants her journey to inspire other young people to believe in their abilities and pursue their passions fearlessly.

“I’m looking forward to performing for bigger audiences and improving my skills,” she said. “I also want to show other young people that it’s possible to follow your dreams while still focusing on school.”

With her determination, creativity and growing confidence, Nyasha Maniki represents a new generation of young artists using their voices to express themselves. As she continues to grow and refine her talents, her journey is one to watch a reminder that passion, when nurtured early, can shape a powerful future.
