NYATSIME College is positioning itself among Zimbabwe’s top performing schools after posting a 99 percent pass rate at Ordinary Level.
The school also maintained a 100 percent pass rate at Advanced Level in the past three years.
The school principal, Dr Shepherd Masaraure, talked about how the leadership team undertook a high performance culture course designed to strengthen management through coaching rather than traditional command-and-control methods.
“The main thrust of the course was to train administrators and heads of departments on high performance by adopting a new approach in management through coaching,” he said.
Under this model, teachers are expected to take the initiative and propose solutions whenever they encounter challenges, rather than simply reporting problems.
The approach has fostered innovation and accountability among staff, with teachers encouraged to plan their daily objectives, anticipate outcomes and evaluate results.
“We are drifting away from traditional approaches where a superior is always behind a subordinate.
“We are pushing our staff to generate local solutions and be innovative,” Dr Masaraure said.

Importantly, Nyatsime College takes in learners with varying academic backgrounds and works to improve them through structured academic support and close monitoring.
“We take students regardless of their starting point and promise a strong end product when they finish their studies here,” he said, adding that the school’s highly motivated teaching staff remains central to that mission.
Vice-Principal Dr Albert Maruta said the boarding school is now second in its province in terms of pass rates and is determined to claim the top position.
He added that the institution is aiming not only to maintain its high pass rates but to improve both the quantity and quality of its results.
Dr Maruta attributed the performance to a deliberate shift in management style, anchored on a high-performance culture adopted by the school’s administration and heads of departments.
Beyond academic excellence, Nyatsime College is steadily building a self-sustaining boarding model.
The school runs a livestock project, with cattle providing meat for students, reducing dependence on external suppliers and ensuring food security on campus.
The institution also operates an on-site clinic, providing immediate medical attention to learners and easing the burden on external health facilities. The administration says these initiatives are part of a broader vision to create a holistic learning environment where academic success is supported by stable nutrition, health services and structured boarding life.

The school is also rebuilding one of its dormitories that was destroyed by fire, reconstruction efforts are underway as the school works to restore full boarding capacity.
With consistent 100 percent Advanced Level results, near-perfect Ordinary Level performance and a management philosophy built on accountability and innovation, Nyatsime College is seeking recognition not only as one of the best schools in its province, but among the leading institutions nationally.
