UPCOMING Hwange-based golfer Sebastian Nyoni was the toast of the 2016 edition of the Kamandama Memorial Fundraising Golf Tournament by scooping three accolades at the end of a well-attended event in the coalmining town on Sunday.

The 30-year-old and his partner Takaz Njini were the overall tournament winners with a massive 79 points in a tournament, whose scores were based on hidden alliances and not better ball per hole format.

Nyoni, who also scooped the individual top prize with a whopping 41 points, is highly confident that his golf will continue getting better.

“I’m very happy to be a winner at this tournament and my golf is also improving as I’m working very hard. Last year I lost out on the top position with my partner Thomas Ngwira to tournament winners Rabson Dumani and Shelly Gwanonga,” said Nyoni.

“From that day, I’ve been working to ensure that this year I’m a champion. My dream is to turn professional one day, although I pray for sponsorship for that feat.”

Ladies captain Matron Mguni and Thankyou Mwampampa were second overall in the tournament with 75 points.

Local junior products Kudzanai Zulu and Amos Lungu were third with 73 points, while Zvitongei Chihowa and Victor Chinodzimba were fourth with 69 points.

The longest drive in the ladies category was scooped by Tsitsi Mulenga and Sharon Dhlodhlo, while Moses Moyo and Christian Lungu won similar awards in the men’s category.

Club president Thomas Makore thanked the golfers and sponsors for their efforts during the presentation ceremony.

“Since its inception 10 years ago, the tournament has evolved to become a flagship annual event and continues to attract golfers across the nation. The success of this tournament is testament of your support and belief in HCCL’s shared vision. You believed in us as evidenced by contributing in various ways towards this worthy cause.” said Makore, who was also part of the field of 108 players.

Around $7,500 was received in cash, pledges and kind from various individuals and stakeholders before auctioning.
