adminNyoni reportedly killed his wife Miriam Nyoni (Takavingofa) with a machete, splitting her skull open and chopping off both her hands before trying to commit suicide by slitting his wrists and hanging himself.
The gruesome murder of Miriam took place in the family house, Block 37/1212 and the Takavingofa family has been reluctant to clean the blood.
When a Chronicle news crew visited the house on Wednesday, the gate was open but there was no one in the house with windows tightly closed.
A neighbour who asked not to be named said there was no one living in the house anymore.
“There is no one staying in the house of late. Miriam’s blood is still on the floor and it seems her family still does not want to clean it,” said the man.
He said the house was abandoned when mourners left after the funeral wake.
“Everyone left the house soon after the Takavingofa family decided to go back to their rural homes. The house has been deserted ever since and one of the two family members just comes for a few minutes to check and leaves within a short space of time,” said the neighbour.
In an interview yesterday, Mr S Takawira, who speaks on behalf of the Nyoni family denied the allegations and said there was no one at the house because the owners were not around.
“I do not understand why people are alleging the house is haunted because the family members are not there. One is now late and the other is in police custody so clearly there cannot be anyone living in the house.
“The doors are locked and I go there to check on a regular basis,” said Mr Takawira.
He said the family still did not know when Miriam would be buried as it was waiting for the Takavingofas.
Miriam’s chopped up body has been at United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary for the past two weeks.
The Takavingofa family have not organised burial arrangements as they are waiting for the Nyoni family to meet their demands of $3 000 and 45 head of cattle.
Goodman Nyoni appeared in court recently and was remanded in custody to today.
