The June O’ and A’ levels results are out, two months after candidates sat for the examinations, a feat that the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council has achieved after years of struggling to release the results early.
Zimsec director Esau Shingirirai Nhandara attributed the quick release of the results to electronic processes in both registration of candidates and in the marking of scripts.
He said examination centre heads can collect the results from Zimsec regional offices starting today.
“Electronic processes in the registration of candidates and in the marking of scripts have significantly reduced the turnaround time and made the prompt release of results possible,” said Nhandara in a statement.
He said this year saw the largest number of O’ level candidates registering to sit for the June examinations, with a total of 101,471 candidates in comparison to the 97,788 who registered in 2013. From these candidates, more than 75 percent sat for one or two subjects.
Only 3,658 candidates accounting for 3,60 percent of the total number of candidates who registered sat for five or more subjects.
At least 5,52 percent of the candidates registered for four subjects, while 14,64 percent registered for three.
Nhandara said the 2013 June examinations recorded the highest entries of candidates who sat for five subjects and subsequently the highest pass rate compared to this year’s examinations.
In relation to Advanced level examinations, Nhandara said a total of 4,767 candidates registered for the examinations, a slight decrease from the 4,827 who registered for the 2013 June examinations.
