THE Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has released results of the June 2013 Ordinary Level examinations which show an increase in the English Language pass rate.The pass rate for English was 38.29 percent in June last year and shot up to 47.10 percent while Mathematics (non calculator) was passed by 45.31 percent of the candidates compared to 21.49 percent in 2012.
In a statement yesterday, Zimsec director Mr Esau Nhandara said June O-Level results had been dispatched to Zimsec regional offices countrywide.
“Zimsec is notifying examination centres, candidates, parents, guardians and all other stakeholders that the June 2013 Ordinary Level results are out and have been dispatched to Zimsec regional offices.
“Examination centre heads are advised to contact their respective regional offices for the smooth collection of the results,” said Mr Nhandara.
He said there was an increase in the pass rate of subjects that include English Language, Literature in English, Religious Studies (syllabus B), Mathematics (non-calculator), Mathematics (calculator), Economics, Biology and Human and Social Biology compared to 2012.
“We recorded a decrease in pass rate for nine subjects that include Religious Studies (syllabus A), History, Geography, Ndebele, Shona, Integrated Science, Commerce and Principles of Accounts.
“I would like to express my profound gratitude to all the Zimsec staff and examiners who took part in this critical national exercise for their dedication and duty, and the public at large for their continued support,” said Mr Nhandara.
In 2013 Zimsec registered 182 255 June O-Level candidates, an increase from 138 337 in 2012.
