Dr Obert Moses Mpofu-Zanu PF Secretary General
As the country’s elections have been peacefully conducted and the winners proclaimed, it is perhaps now time to reflect on this historic occasion.
While our party, ZANU PF and its Presidential candidate, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa have emerged victorious, there are tell-tale signs that this victory did not go down well with our detractors who have seemingly recruited some of our own people in the region such as Dr Nevers Mumba, to criticise how we have conducted our democratic processes during this electoral period.
There is not much to make-out of the hatchet job perpetuated by the failed preacher and opposition leader, one Dr Nevers Mumba, on our Constitution, electoral laws and our institutions.
However, what is evident is that, the words that came from Dr Mumba’s lips were not his nor SADC’s, but he was simply acting as a mouthpiece of our detractors.
We have been here before, we have heard such similar utterance and rantings before, but these will not deny us the opportunity to revel in our historic victory as against all odds, the colossal party, ZANU PF has once again emerged victorious.
Perhaps having noted that people were no longer paying attention to their endless rhetoric that had become monotonous, our detractors decided to recruit a different voice this time to speak for them.
I have heard murmurings of how the EU and Commonwealth Observer Mission Teams were on frantic efforts to recruit and convince all the election observers to have one unified report and speak with one voice in condemning our election.
This naturally came after they realised ZANU PF’s popularity and impending victory. Such unsportsmanlike conduct is unbecoming, the best team won and there is no need to spoil the broth and put a dent on ZANU PF’s victory, which anyone with a brain should have foreseen from a mile away.
It is surprising and shocking when a fellow brother is influenced by outside forces to attack their fellows.
What Dr Mumba presented so far was not obtained from the elections observation mission but everything to do with criticising our laws.
Perhaps the invitations may have been vague, what they were invited to do was observe our elections and not write a treatise of everything they perceive to be wrong with our Constitution and electoral laws.
These impostors presented themselves as being more knowledgeable of our own Constitution and laws better than us.
Dr Mumba’s preliminary report was filled with his own warped ideas of what is democratic and how our elections should be managed.
It is perhaps time that we as Africans, united in our common end should ditch the rigid notion that seeks to only accept the Western and American model of democracy as the ideal and only acceptable form of democracy.
After all, we fought for this our democracy and we are our own liberators.
What is apparent is that, some of these so-called observation missions already came with premade reports and preconceived notions that sought to criticise any outcome that was not a win by the opposition.
Perhaps Dr Mumba should remember that, one of the most widely acceptable definition of democracy states that, it is a system of government in which power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or through freely elected representatives.
The people have spoken, and once again they have chosen ZANU PF.
Yes, as inconceivable as it is to our detractors, the people have and will always choose ZANU PF.
It is because our people understand the ethos of the colossal party, as a matter-of-fact ZANU PF has and will always have an unbreakable bond with the electorate because it is the people’s party.
The people’s will indeed prevailed, but it is apparent that whatever outcome or whatever we do, as long as ZANU PF still lives and thrives as the governing party in this country, we can never appease our detractors, who are bent on destroying the ruling party and our great nation.
Reports by the various hostile election observers have all but proven that, what will be passed for a credible election in this country is one in which ZANU PF loses and one which propels the opposition into power.
ZANU PF’s and President Mnangagwa’s victory in this election has given detractors many sleepless nights and has caused them a great deal of pains.
The so-called proponents of democracy from the West have an agenda to thwart the will of the people.
Who then is more democratic, us or them?
Despite Dr Mumba’s so called preliminary report, we have received a number of congratulatory messages and of support from several secretary generals of leading political parties within the region and several leaders within our region.
Then which SADC does Mumba purport to be acting on behalf of when our counterparts in the region have already sent congratulatory messages to the victory by our party and its Presidential candidate, Cde Mnangagwa?
In our view, this is THE BEST election that has been carried out in Zimbabwe and we have President Mnangagwa to thank for that; for opening up the democratic space and ensuring that there is peace and tranquillity in our country.
President Mnangagwa deserved this victory due to the achievements that he has made over the past five years that have massively transformed Zimbabwe.
This election was so unique that ZANU PF did not even need a manifesto as the great works that he has done over the past five years were sufficient enough to gain him another fresh five -year mandate. This truly shows that the great works are a manifesto in themselves.
This is all as a result of President Mnangagwa’s leadership philosophy that seeks to leave no one and no place behind. President Mnangagwa being a listening President has incorporated the views from all stakeholders who are interested in moving the country forward.
These include over 95 affiliates focusing on economic development and even returnees who have found their way back home to the colossal party.
Such an approach has culminated in all sorts of people to rally behind President Mnangagwa.
Above all, President Mnangagwa has successfully preached peace, unity and nation building and this is adequate proof that he is indeed a statesman and nationalist of note.
Now that the election is over and the victor has been announced, it is important that we as Zimbabweans do not waste any time and get back to developing our country because “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo, ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo”.
Under President Mnangagwa, Vision 2030 is indeed attainable and Zimbabwe is in safe hands.
We definitely look forward to five more years under President Mnangagwa’s astute leadership.
A hearty congratulations Shumba Murambwi.
LONG LIVE ZIMBABWE AND LONG LIVE OUR DEMOCRACY!!
