A PUMULA East man allegedly stabbed his drinking mate with a broken beer bottle after being asked for an empty one.
Prince Khayelihle Sibanda (28) appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube facing a charge of assault. He was remanded in custody to September 22.

Prosecutor Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court the bizarre attack happened on August 31 at DNM Sports Bar in Pumula East.
Nation Nduna (31) was sharing drinks with Sibanda. Nduna later walked over and casually asked Sibanda for an empty beer bottle.

That simple request allegedly triggered a violent outburst.
“From nowhere, the accused became aggressive and started questioning why the complainant asked for an empty beer bottle from him,” said Dzimbanhete.

In a fit of rage, Sibanda allegedly grabbed a broken beer bottle and drove it straight into Nduna’s face, stabbing him once on the left eye.
The court heard that Nduna sustained a deep cut on the upper eyelid and was rushed to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for urgent treatment.

Police were called to the scene and Sibanda was arrested shortly after the incident.
The motive behind Sibanda’s explosive reaction remains unclear, leaving patrons at the bar shocked and shaken.

Residents say the incident highlights how quickly alcohol-fueled nights can spiral into violence.
“He just lost it over nothing,” said a witness who asked not to be named. “One minute they were drinking, the next minute there was blood everywhere.”

Sibanda will remain behind bars until his next court appearance later this month.
