Oh, it was a Fools Day prank

Herald Reporter

Yesterday hordes of people gathered in the Africa Unity Square in Harare anticipating a free Alick Macheso gig.

As the clock struck noon, the truth began to settle in like a cold breeze.

There was no stage being built.

No sound checks were echoing through the streets.

The official Baba Shero pages remained quiet, save for a cheeky post from a promoter reminding everyone of the actual calendar.

It was the ultimate “Baba Shero” bait.

To the thousands who were ready to dust off their dancing shoes: you’ve been officially caught in the net.

The legendary guitarist wasn’t playing for free yesterday, and the only “Macheso move” happening was the collective facepalm of fans realising they forgot what day it was.

Happy April Fools’ Day! While there was no free show, at least the joke didn’t cost you a ticket.
