OK Zimbabwe comes to the rescue of yesteryear TV presenter John Phiri

Herald Correspondent

Renowned yesteryear Zimbabwean TV presenter John “Mzala” Phiri recently received a US$500 shopping voucher from OK Zimbabwe Limited, a gesture that underscored the retailer’s appreciation for Phiri and his contributions to the media industry.

The Trolley for Trolley Challenge, a community-driven initiative by OK Zimbabwe Limited, has significantly impacted the Glen View community, bringing joy to local shoppers and fostering a stronger bond within the neighbourhood.

Phiri, a revered figure in Zimbabwe’s broadcasting industry, is best known for his work on the popular ZBC shows “Ezomgido” and “Mutinhimira weMumhanzi”.

The recognition comes at a crucial time as Phiri recently faced health challenges following a stroke that affected his speech.

The voucher presentation on Saturday was a heartfelt tribute to his enduring legacy in the Zimbabwean media landscape.

Phiri remains a loyal customer of OK Zimbabwe Limited, frequently shopping at the OK Makomva branch in Glen View. This long-standing relationship strengthened OK Zimbabwe Limited’s resolve to honour him.

The weekend’s events not only celebrated the lucky winners of the Trolley for Trolley Challenge but also paid tribute to a broadcasting legend, thereby reaffirming OK Zimbabwe’s commitment to the community.

Phiri was instrumental in OK Zimbabwe Limited’s marketing efforts, conducting live broadcasts from OK stores nationwide and anchoring the wildly popular OK Grand Challenge Race Days for years.
