RETAIL giant, OK Zimbabwe, has announced the impending closure of its Food Lovers Market branches in Borrowdale and Avondale.
According to seperate statements released by Food Lovers Market Zimbabwe on social media, the Borrowdale branch will cease operations on June 8 2025, while the Avondale branch will close on June 22.
The OK Zimbabwe group acquired the Food Lovers Market outlets in Borrowdale, Avondale and Bulawayo in 2023. Despite efforts to maintain a presence in the market, the company has been forced to re-evaluate its operations.
In farewell messages to customers, Food Lovers Market expressed gratitude to the local communities, acknowledging the loyalty and support they have received over the years.
“Your local favourite daily fresh stop is saying goodbye. We want to let you know that Food Lovers Market Borrowdale will be closing shop on 8 June 2025,” said Food Lovers Market.
While the other post read, “To our beloved Avondale community, a heartfelt thank you for your loyalty over the years. Food Lovers Market Avondale will be wrapping up trading on 22 June 2025.”
This decision comes on the heels of OK Zimbabwe’s recent closure of several other branches, including Robson Manyika, Glen Norah, Kuwadzana Express, and Mbare in Harare, as well as Chitungwiza Town Centre.
The closures are part of a larger trend in the retail sector, with several major players citing intense competition from the informal market as a major factor.
