OLD Georgians put up a great performance on Saturday to be crowned the 2023 Paramount Garments Under-20 League champions at OGs in Harare.
The champions beat Pitbulls Rugby Club 43-36 in the final. Both teams gave fans an exhilarating final which was evidence of the youngsters’ talent.
After losing their first two games of the season, OGs head coach, Tatenda Museba said he is proud of his team and the victory is the outcome of the effort they have been putting in.
“We have been putting in some effort for the past seven weeks and I would like to thank the boys for trusting the process. I think everyone who came out here enjoyed the final game,” said Museba.
Pitbulls coach, Geoffrey Madhake, who went into the match with a couple of injuries picked from previous encounters, said heir opponents played a good game.
“We didn’t train very well because some of my boys were injured last week but we cannot blame injuries for the loss because OGs played a good game. I want to give them credi for that,” said Madhake.
The men’s final was not the only one taking place on the day as Zimbiru Titans were crowned women’s Under-20 champions after beeating FS Raiders 19-12 in their final. The Titans team booked their place in the final after edging Harare Sports Club 32-10 in the semi-final while Raiders proved strong for Old Georgians 27-5 in their last four encounter.
Harare Sports Club finished in third place in the women’s section after beating Old Georgians 12-10 in the playoff match. On the men’s side, Harare Sports Club took bronze after a walkover Old Hararians who did not pitch up for the game. — @brandon_malvin
