INSURANCE concern, Old Mutual, handed over an assortment of medical equipment and beds to Sakubva Maternity Hospital.
The handover ceremony saw the referral medical institution receiving 20 hospital beds, five patient monitoring Blood Pressure machines, stretcher beds, 100 bedspreads, 20 pillows, two three-seater airport benches and 200 blankets, all valued at US$25 380.
Guest of honour, Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, heartily thanked Old Mutual for choosing Sakubva Maternity Hospital.
“In today’s programme, Old Mutual has chosen to stand with this hospital. It has chosen to stand with Manicaland, it has chosen to stand with Sakubva, it has chosen to stand with you.
“This is a commitment to sustainable community development and to improving the communities it serves through the donation valued at US$25 380. The donation compliments the refurbishment of the labour wards by equipping the hospital. I am pleased to note that all the donated items have already been delivered and we saw that. These items will create a safer and more dignified environment for patients and health care workers,” he said.
Minister Mugadza urged other corporates to emulate the gesture by Old Mutual.
“To Old Mutual, I extend the sincere gratitude of the Government and the people of Mutare and Manicaland. Your gesture reflects the spirit of good corporate citizenship that we encourage across all sectors of our economy,” said Minister Mugadza
- Old Mutual Managing Director, Life Assurance Company, Mrs Rutendo Magorimbo, said: “Everyone’s story begins with a mother. Pregnancy and child birth are important moments in the story and every mother deserves safety and support in that environment as she brings a new life into this world. So Sakubva Hospital plays an important role in caring for families across Mutare’s urban and surrounding communities.
“I was actually surprised to hear that there are some patients that come from as far as Bindura. So as a key referral facility, that takes care of mothers and newly born babies at a particularly important time in their lives, we recognise this skill, dedication and passion that this work requires and responsibility you carry in taking care of mothers and their babies. So at Old Mutual, our work centres on people and the need they require in life. In the division that I represent – Old Mutual Life – our role is to walk with you after birth and throughout life, even until that moment we all dread, where we gave to say goodbye to our loved ones. Every step of the way we will be with you. While our roles are different, we also share an understanding that people need support. So it is this understanding that informs our commitment to improving the communities we serve.”
