OLD Mutual employee share trusts purchased shares worth about R73,3 million over three consecutive trading days as part of hedging transactions linked to the financial services group’s employee share ownership and long-term incentive plans.

In a regulatory notice dated October 22, Old Mutual Limited said its Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Employee Trust and Employee Trust acquired a combined 5 324 867 ordinary shares on the market between October 19 and 21, 2026.

The purchases comprised 3 154 914 shares by the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Employee Trust, valued at R43,42 million, and 2 169 953 shares by the Employee Trust, worth R29,86 million.

The transactions were executed at volume-weighted average prices ranging from R13 5805 to R14 0056 per share, reflecting the market prices recorded over the three days.

The company said the transactions represented an indirect beneficial interest and that it had obtained clearance to deal in accordance with the Johannesburg Stock Exchange’s Listings Requirements.

Old Mutual, which is listed on the Johannesburg, London, Namibian, Malawian and Zimbabwe stock exchanges, provides financial services to retail and corporate customers across 12 countries.

The group said its primary operations are in Africa, with an additional niche business in China.

The transactions relate to employee remuneration arrangements rather than a disclosed strategic acquisition or a change in the company’s ownership structure.
