Music lovers in Bulawayo are in for a treat as the Old Skool concept brings its “90s Lifestyle” event to the city on October 25 at The Place.
The highly anticipated event promises to transport patrons back to the 1990s with its unique blend of fashion, food, music, and atmosphere.
The Old Skool concept, which was launched two years ago, has been instrumental in promoting old school music and preserving the legacy of Zimbabwe’s rich musical heritage. The initiative has been well-received by music enthusiasts, with previous events featuring legendary DJs such as Kudzi Marudza, Tony Friday, Witness Matema, and Kelvin Soul Supreme.
“We started the Old Skool concept two years ago, and this time we’re pushing the theme ’90s Lifestyle’,” said Joe Tha OG, one of the organisers.
“We’ve been inviting popular Old Skool DJs to join us, and this time around, we have Kimble Rogers, Otis the Flow, Joe the OG, Emity Smooth, and resident DJ CP on the lineup.”
The event, which is free to attend, will feature a happy hour early in the evening and is expected to draw a large crowd of music enthusiasts. Patrons can expect a joyride from the late 80s, 90s to early 2000s, starting slowly and moving to dance vibes.
“It’s going to be a classy, dope vibe, with lots of RNB, hip hop, ragga, 90s house, and kwaito,” said Emity Smooth, another organiser.
“We’re creating an atmosphere that’s reminiscent of the good old days, when music was all about self-expression and having a good time.”
The lineup features some of the most respected names in the industry, with Kimble Rogers and Otis the Flow being household names.
“They’re seasoned DJs who know how to get the crowd moving,” said Joe Tha OG.
“We’re confident that they’ll deliver an unforgettable performance.”
Old skool music fans are encouraged to mark their calendars and attend the event to experience the ultimate 90s lifestyle.
“Old Skool music has had a lasting impact on Zimbabwe’s music scene,” said Otis ‘The Flow’ Fraser, a legendary Bulawayo DJ who has performed at previous Old Skool events.
“It’s great to see the younger generation embracing their heritage and keeping the legacy alive.”
The Old Skool concept has also provided a platform for local artists to showcase their talents and connect with industry professionals.
“We’re proud to be part of this movement, which is helping to preserve our cultural heritage,” said Joe Tha OG.
