On This Rock wins Gold Cup

FOUR-year-old On This Rock won the 2014 HRIB Gold Cup Sprint which was the main race of the day at Borrowdale Racecourse on Saturday. The bay gelding was being piloted by France Naude when it romped to victory in the 1 200m race which had 13 runners at the starting stalls. The main race of the day was delayed as Thriller in Manila had his front shoe come off and was later withdrawn from the race.

Kelvin Derere’s King Kahal was also withdrawn for delaying the start and was to be reschooled prior to the nomination for the racing event.

Zimbabwean-bred Picalilly ridden by Hennie Greyling came close on second, losing by 1,5 lengths to On This Rock.

The three-year-old filly Gharair Alison was in her sixth run and managed to do well in the tough race which had several experienced five-year-olds.

Army Bronkhorst’s five-year-old mare was ridden by Collen Storey and the Lisa Harris stable runner proved his mettle in the tight race.

Count The Music, a six-year-old chestnut, piloted by Denicious Smith, come fourth to complete the places.

The race was the last of the season and saw the Lisa Harries stable, who groomed Equina, grabbing the lime light once again.

The other races saw Wolf in Winter winning the Old Mutual Insurance race as Maturin came second while You Are So Vain was third.

The race was the seventh of the day.
