ONE person died and two others were injured when a haulage truck carrying chrome ore overturned and crushed a Toyota Probox at Dadaya turn-off along the Zvishavane-Bulawayo Highway on Sunday.
The accident occurred at around 4.30pm as the truck was travelling towards Zvishavane.
Zvishavane District Development Coordinator Mr Darlington Chokera said the truck driver reportedly lost control while approaching the turn-off, where several speed humps have been installed.
“In attempting to brake and reduce speed, the truck overturned onto its side, crushing the Toyota Probox and trapping its occupant,” he said.
Mr Chokera said one person who was rescued from the wreckage was pronounced dead on arrival at Zvishavane District Hospital, while the two injured victims were taken to the same hospital for treatment.
He said rescue operations were carried out by the Zvishavane Town Council Fire Brigade in collaboration with the police.
Efforts were also under way to mobilise heavy recovery equipment to lift the overturned truck and extricate the crushed Toyota Probox.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation.
