ONE DOWN, ONE MORE TO GO . . . How Mudadi is saving his saviour Maruwa

DYNAMOS midfielder Donald “Kante” Mudadi is living his dream.

The 26-year-old has always wanted to be part of the Glamour Boys.

But, even his booming performance in Black Rhinos colours in 2018 couldn’t open the way for him.

Instead he was man-hunted by Triangle who wanted his industry and artistry in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2019.

Nothing worked for him in the Lowveld and just last year, he was part of a poor Harare City side that was demoted to the ZIFA Northern Region Division One.

He was poor in that team too.

Yet he was the first name on Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa’s wanted list when the latter was appointed to take over the Dynamos hot seat ahead of the current campaign.

Having worked with Maruwa in 2018 at the military team, Mudadi took the offer without blinking an eye.

And he is now the heart and soul of a Glamour Boys team seeking to win their first league title since 2014.

But things haven’t been all rosy for DeMbare with Maruwa recently pushed into a corner by the club executive who demanded he won last Sunday’s game against ZPC Kariba and their next assignment against Black Rhinos to keep his job.

As if to save the man who handed him to the team he had always wished to play for, Mudadi was unplayable as he inspired Dynamos to a 3-0 win over ZPC Kariba at the National Sports Stadium.

It was a performance for the archives and it’s a shame the country is banned from international football. Otherwise he would have been one of the players to help the Warriors in their assignments.

Mudadi brought his A-Game and underlined the flawless performance with a well-worked brace.

Even the Dynamos fans, who normally fete their favourite man Denver Mukamba with cash after almost every game, reserved huge United States Dollars denominations for the ex-Black Rhinos man at the end of the somewhat tense encounter.

The soft-spoken midfielder now leads the scoring charts for Dynamos having taken his goal tally to four after Sunday’s pair of goals.

He was so passionate and determined in the middle of the field and one would be tempted to think all he was looking for ways to save Maruwa’s post.

“I am very happy we have managed to win this game. As a player, I am obliged to play my best football every time I get a chance to be in the field of play. Did I play to save Maruwa’s job?

“I am not aware of anything but what I know is that as a player I need to help my team win games by putting all the effort that I should individually,” said Mudadi.

“I know my job is to do well, help the team do well and make the fans happy.

“If we manage to do what we have done today (Sunday), we go home satisfied.

“I am very impressed with how everyone carried themselves in this match against ZPC Kariba.

“This is the same spirit that we should carry in all our games.

“We have to take each game as it comes though. Our next match is against Black Rhinos and we should focus our energy on that match and that match only.

“We can’t afford to think about any other fixture which is not against Black Rhinos. I think this can help us work exactly on what needs to be worked on.

“I think Dynamos is a very big club and we need to develop big hearts to match the status as well”.

Meanwhile goalkeeper Prince Tafiremutsa says he spent the whole of last week not really sure what he would face in the match against ZPC Kariba.

Tafiremutsa was given the nod to guard the posts for Dynamos as error-ridden Taimon Mvula was dropped from the squad that played against ZPC Kariba.

The former Herentals goalkeeper was told by Maruwa last Tuesday that he should prepare himself for the ZPC Kariba.

“I was not sure what to expect in the match. I joined Dynamos last year and only played once. You know how it is,” said Tafiremutsa.

But the lanky shot stopper had a decent showing, cutting crosses well and he could be retained for DeMbare’s next assignment against Black Rhinos.
