One killed, 5 family members injured in Jambezi accident

A man died while five family members were injured when a car they were travelling overturned on a muddy road in Jambezi in Hwange District. Kenneth Tshuma, a security guard at a tour operating company — Wild Horizons in Victoria Falls, died in Hwange on his way to Bulawayo after being transferred from Victoria Falls District Hospital on Sunday.

The accident which was confirmed by police occurred in Jambezi on Sunday when Tshuma of Mfelandawonye suburb, his young brother Brighton, his two sons aged 15 and eight and two other unnamed relatives were travelling to their rural home in Jambezi.

“I can confirm we received a report about an accident and we’re still compiling details since it occurred in a rural area,” said Matabeleland North traffic co-coordinator, Superintendent Misheck Ngorima.

It was raining when the accident occurred.

A relative said Brighton was driving the vehicle when the accident occurred.

“He lost control after the brakes failed. The car veered off the road and as he tried to bring it back into the road it overturned since the road was slippery. The car rolled three times and Kenneth was thrown out resulting in him sustaining serious injuries on the head, chest and legs,” said the relative.

The rest of the family members who also sustained injuries were treated and discharged at Victoria Falls District Hospital.
