POLE Position Karts of Zimbabwe could not hide their excitement after they were named as a double finalist in the International Rental Karting Awards 2023.
The outdoor rental karting venue reached the six finalists from over 45 entrants in the ”Most Inspiring Kart Track of the Year” and ”Implementer of the Year” categories. It is the only venue in Africa to reach the finals.
The announcement comes in the same week that Pole Position Karts owner, Kevin Dufty, opened a second rental kart track in Harare. The business now boasts two rental kart tracks, one in Eastlea and a new track in the grounds of the National Sports Stadium.
”To be honoured as a finalist among the best rental kart venues in the world is a great reward for our staff, our venue, our customers and the sporting community of Zimbabwe,” commented Dufty. ”We pride ourselves on the efforts that we put into our business. To be recognised as one of the best in the world, in the same week that we opened our second track, is truly amazing!”
“We want to recognise the great work that rental kart tracks around the world are doing. The finalists are doing truly exceptional things, which really make them stand out from the crowd!” said Simon Heap, CEO of Fastline Group in the UK, who will be hosting the awards. Over 170 rental kart businesses entered the awards, split over seven different categories. The winners will be announced at the Fastline Karting Spectacular, in Dortmund, Germany, in January 2023.
”In the eight years that Pole Position Karts has been open, we have seen thousands of Zimbabweans try rental karting for the first time. For more than 20 of them, it has been a stepping stone to racing karts competitively,” said the former national karting champion Dufty. ”For others, it has opened their eyes to the possibility of participating in motorsport at an affordable and social level. Some have entered our endurance challenges and the annual ‘Race of Champions’. Without the need to own a kart to participate, we have opened up the field to people who would otherwise not have been able to take part in motorsport,” he added.
”The demand has been so high that we decided to open a second rental kart track, located at the National Sports Stadium. The new track is longer and wider than our existing track in Eastlea. It will initially be for drivers older than 14 and taller than 1.5m.
”It is strategically located to bring karting to a wider community. The rental track forms part of a larger karting facility that will host race kart events, such as the ROK Cup Zimbabwe championship in 2023,” explained Dufty.
”Our track in Eastlea remains open and welcomes everyone over the age of 8 and taller than 1.3m to come and try rental karts. With the added attractions of paintballing, puttputt, a climbing wall and a trampoline park, it really is the ideal family entertainment centre!”
Pole Position Karts in Eastlea is part of the ”Ultimate Fun” complex, just off Samora Machel Avenue within the grounds of Hellenic Sports Club.
Pole Position Karts Stadium is located within the grounds of the National Sports Stadium. Both venues will be open over the Christmas holidays from 10am to 5pm, apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. After the holidays, both venues are open from Wednesday to Sunday (10am–5pm).
