Officer-in-Charge of Mataga Police Station Inspector Champion Nkomo has bemoaned the increase in crime, saying only following the Bible could arrest criminality.
Insp Nkomo made the remarks at Bonda Business Centre on Friday last week at Mberengwa South Zone J Agricultural Show.
He said the increase in crime was worrying.
“We have seen that crime is on the rise, so you will find that we take such opportunities to advise people to desist from such behaviours because if you love your neighbour then there will be no cases of raping of minors, then there will be no cases of domestic violence, people will just live in peace with one another,” said Insp Nkomo.
“You will find that someone rapes a minor and this is such a despicable act. It is evil to say the least and what I can tell you is that such an offence has no fine. You cannot pay a fine for such an evil act.
“And again in the homes there is no peace. People are just being violent towards each other for no reason. The women have lost respect for their husbands. I do not know what has become of our society and again for domestic violence, you cannot pay a fine.
“Then we also have the issue of dangerous weapons. We do not want to see anyone moving around with any dangerous weapons. Things like machetes, catapults, axes and okapi knives.
“We have banned all that. We do not want to see anyone carrying such weapons because some people are killing others using such dangerous weapons.”
Insp Nkomo said ignorance of the Bible was driving people to commit such crimes.
“What makes someone commit all these crimes I have talked about is because they do not know God,” he said. “If you know God you would not hurt your neighbour.”
Insp Nkomo said not only women were victims of domestic violence; men were also victims.
