The natural and man-made disasters that Zimbabwe has experienced in recent years have made a local organisation Global Platform Zimbabwe urgently appeal for support from Parliament to enact civil protection and disaster risk management, Muneisuishe Chiveso a member of the organisation has said.

He was speaking yesterday during the petition appeal for support in enacting disasters, risky management, and civil protection laws.
“We are earnestly pleading with Parliament to prioritise and expedite the finalisation of the Disaster Risk Management and Civil Protection Bill into law.
“We kindly request the esteemed Parliament to support our initiative by urging the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works to expedite the finalisation of the DRMCP Bill into law because Zimbabwe has been highly anticipating disasters for the past two decades,” he said.
“We want to take action to reduce the impact of this disaster phase of El Nino, a climate-induced drought that started in November and is expected to end in March. It is expected that there will be no rain in Zimbabwe,” he said.
Mr Muneisuishe said they have engaged in an awareness risk programme to strengthen the preparedness of the country in line with Vision 2030.
“We have successfully engaged over 1000 young people from across the ten provinces, especially those in fragile districts such as Binga, Mbire, Chimanimani, and Chipinge through the National Development Strategy 1 which seeks to usher in an upper-middle-class economy by the year 2030,” he said.
