South Africa based veteran wheel spinner DJ Oskido, real name Oscar Mdlongwa, was honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the Metro FM Awards which were held over the weekend at Mbombela Stadium in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, South Africa.
The award comes as a special recognition accolade for Oskido’s immense contribution to the Kwaito music as well as his contribution to African music for over three decades.
While receiving his award, The I Believe hitmaker said he is grateful for the recognition he received at the same time applauding members of Kalawa Jazmee from inception to the current bunch of talent – that helped him to be where he is today.
“Celebrating three decades of democracy with a Lifetime Achievement Award is a testament to the remarkable journey of my life.
“I am thankful for the gift of music, the freedom to create, and the support from our democratic government since our humble beginnings.
“This award is not just for me; it’s for everyone who has been part of this incredible journey, from Kwaito to House, AmaPiano, and the entire explosion of South African music that has captivated the world.”
Other artistes who received the Lifetime Achievement Award are the 90s Kwaito group Boom Shaka who were groomed by Oskido under Kalawa.
“I applaud Metro FM for awarding Oskido and Boom Shaka with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Oskido has inspired and molded generations of artists in democratic South Africa.
“Boom Shaka’s legacy continues to shape and influence South African culture,” said Minister of Sport, Arts & Culture, Zizi Kodwa, who attended the awards ceremony.
