South Africa-based legendary DJ and producer Oskido has been awarded the Silver Order of Ikhamanga by Cyril Ramaphosa in recognition of his pioneering contribution to Kwaito music and his role in mentoring young artistes through entrepreneurship and music production.
The Order of Ikhamanga is one of South Africa’s highest national honours, presented to citizens who have excelled in arts, culture, literature, music, journalism and sport.
The awards ceremony was held on May 19 at the Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria.
Other notable recipients included rugby coach Johan “Rassie” Erasmus, who received the Gold Order for his leadership in rugby, and music icon Jonathan Butler, who was awarded the Silver Order for his global contribution to music.
Posthumous honours were also awarded to jazz legend Jonny Mbizo Dyani, Professor Deuteronomy Bhekinkosi Zeblon Ntuli, as well as Samuel Mhangwani and Benjamin John Peter Tyamzashe for their contributions to culture, language preservation and social cohesion.
